Dive Wananavu Crew

Established in 2012, Dive Wananavu Fiji is a PADI 5-star Dive Resort and boasts a team of well trained, knowledgeable, and friendly local dive experts excited to take you to their favorite underwater dive sites.

Our team uses two custom build dive boats which ensure that our dive guests will enjoy a safe and comfortable transfer to and from the dive sites. Both dive boats are equipped with safety gear, dry storage, healthy snacks, fresh water, camera storage, and designated camera rinse bins.

Meet our team below:

Las Vota – Master Boat Captain (Class 6)

Lasaro “Las” Vota– Master Boat Captain (Class 6)

Lasaro has been a boat captain for 15 years! He is a class 6 captain which makes him the most experienced boat handler on our dive team.  He has shared that skill with Wananavu for six years looking after the safety of the divers and the guests both while on board and while under the water.  He is the main captain for our largest boat, the “Nami”.  Nami means wave in Fijian and that’s where Lasaro is at his best – out amonst the waves!  He has been married twenty years with five children ages 4-15.  As most everyone in Fiji, Las also likes to play rugby.  He enjoys watching the Fiji 7’s on television or in his down time go fishing.  He wants to learn to SCUBA Dive.  He would love to drive a large boat one day, perhaps a liveaboard.

Jese Ramasima (“Jez”) – Divemaster, Boat Captainv

Suliano "Jese" Ramasima– Divemaster, Boat Captain

Jese has been serving at Wananavu for five years as a Dive Master leading dives, as a deckhand swapping gear over, or even as the Captain of the boat; driving us out to our marvelous dive sites! If he isn’t out on the water (or under it) he is on dry land helping run the variety of activities Wananavu has to offer like coordinating our crab races or husking a coconut. He loves to play rugby, as well as fishing and reading. His future goal is to become a PADI Instructor!

Semi Gonerara | Wananavu Dive Team

Semi Gonerara

Semi has been a Boat Master and Dive Master with Wananavu since October 2017 but in on the water driving and leading for ten years!!!  He recently came from serving on the liveaboard “The Siren”.  When asked about family and children, his response was “I’m still enjoying my single life!”  He thoroughly enjoys reading a good book or a good game of rugby.  He wants to continue diving until he “can’t dive no more”, with the caveat that he will quit working as a Divemaster in 2028.  Haha!  Let’s see him turn into an instructor well before then.

Vasori "Pus" Bakewa

He has been at Wananavu for fifteen years as a boat captain and in charge of the many activities and tours we host here. His boat duties include looking after our smaller aluminum boat the “Nami Lailai".

In Fijian, that means “Little Wave”. He escorts guests diving, fishing, snorkeling and more. He is well versed in local Fijian customs and traditions and with that knowledge leads guests on our Village Tours, our Waterslide expedition, our coconut presentation, cultural talks and medicine education talk. He truly is a wealth of knowledge. He is married with four children ages 3, 6, 10 and 11. In the little down time he has, he enjoys relaxing and watching the news or rugby on TV. He plans to attend the Class 4 & 5 Boat Masters License course to continue his education and career.

Mosese Tabaiwalu | Dive Team Member at Wananavu Beach Resort

Mosese "Moggie or Moses" Tabaiwalu

Moggie has been a part of the Wananavu family for six years now and with our dive team for almost a year. He is an avid diver and he is a boat captain. He steers our smallest fiberglass boat, the “Tolu” out into the channel to take guests snorkeling, or perhaps to a beach picnic.  He is often on the Lailai escorting guests around our closest three island for an amazing Island Discovery Tour.

He is excited to take guests out on our excursions including our newly added Mountain Hike tour. He is recently married with a brand new baby. His hobbies include what is his occupation: hanging out on a boat or diving. He recently got his EFR certification and plans on moving up to a professional level of Divemaster. He will also continue to move forward with more boat education classes for a higher ranking captains license.
